Nitrogen Low Fog

The cryoFOGGER

We've all seen the effect - graceful waves of low-lying fog wafting across a stage, making talent and props appear to be floating on a cloud. It's a timeless classic that can create subtle mystery or dramatic punch.

How about a massive horizontally-fired fog wall that quickly and completely obscures an entire stage from your audience (a.k.a. "Nitrogen Burst Wall")?

Both of these effects and many more can be produced with liquid nitrogen (LN2) foggers.

About Low Fog

ETG creates low fog using two distinct types of devices - fog chillers and nitrogen foggers. Fog chillers, such as the LeMaitre LSG and Cirrus units, use a cryogenic fluid (Liquid CO2) to dramatically chill traditional stage fog. This chilling effect causes the fog to become heavy and stay low to the ground. Nitrogen foggers, on the other hand, use no fog oil. LN2 foggers simply let the supercold liquid nitrogen create its own vapor cloud as it is introduced to warm humid air inside a water boiler.

LN2 machines have a distinct advantage over CO2 machines in that the fog is almost instantaneously produced with the touch of a button. CO2 machines tend to need a short chilling period (which can seem like an eternity in a tightly-cued show). Additionally, CO2 chillers typically send out small amounts of warm fog during this chilling period. LN2 fog, on the other hand, is cold from the beginning. The drawback? Since LN2 machines produce fog from the nitrogen itself, consumption of the cyro liquid is fast and can get costly.

The cryoFOGGER

ETG's LN2 machine is an engineering masterpiece. Simple and reliable, yet very powerful. The cold fog can be ducted up to 50 feet in uninsulated flex hose - even farther with insulated ducting! The fog is completely odorless and produces no residue to irritate your talent or audience. Stage decks don't get slippery and fire inspectors don't get concerned. In fact, most venues don't even require a costly fire watch since LN2 fog evaporates before it can enter the HVAC system and be picked up by fire detection sensors.

The cryoFOGGER is fed by a standard low pressure LN2 dewer vessel. It also needs a water source to fill its boiler. The device can be connected to a garden hose and put into a self-service mode whereby it takes water as it needs it. However, if a garden hose is not available, the cryoFOGGER can be filled manually with a bucket.

Consumption of LN2 can be fast. At its highest setting, the cryoFOGGER can empty a standard full-size dewer tank in about 12 minutes. That's a lot of cold fog! Consumption can be slowed by lowering the fog output, but most people simply leave the machine on full and take advantage of its tremendous output.

The cyroFOGGER system is available for purchase or rent. ETG can design and build a custom distribution system to meet your specific needs and does recommend that one of our certified technicians accompany the cryoFOGGER on larger installations. Contact ETG for more information.
